OLOTA NEWS APRIL 2020
The newly elected (May 2019) members of the Regional Council of OLOTA met at Mt. St. Francis
September, 2019. This meeting was Introductory in nature. An Orientation Session for the newly
elected members was facilitated by the past Minister, Irene Manning. Simple, quick-reference sheets were made available to all fraternities. Checklists on what to do to prepare for a fraternity election, a canonical establishment, a permanent profession, how to conduct a Fraternity Meeting. Economics was an issue at this meeting with finances being reviewed. Budgets streamlined and planned strategically to assist fraternities to fulfill planning goals.
The Celebration of Fraternity Rituals, as Elections, Permanent Professions were celebrated in late Fall 2019. Other fraternity plans for the New Year of 2020 as Canonical Establishments and elections were abruptly halted by Covid 19 Face to face Regional and Fraternity Meetings were cancelled or postponed. Physical distancing were instructions from National Office to be observed, however, staying connected became the new norm through virtual technology as the program of Zoom. Regional had a Zoom meeting in April and is planning the Spring Meeting in May to be a virtual meeting. A different format for the meeting will take place, but all are anticipating productivity. The connection between Regional Councillors being the important component.
The Little Flowers of St. Francis Fraternity in Kelowna, BC held its April Fraternity Meeting by Zoom. Overcoming minor gliches gave way to a "connection" that inspired all members. As Regional Minister, it would be my delight for all fraternities to look into this method of staying connected and to be invited to attend their virtual meetings. We could see and meet each other via screen! There is something very special about face to face meetings that can never be replaced by technology, however, under the attack of Covid 19, "Nothing is impossible with God" and connected we can be.
The National Minister, Doug Clorey and his wife Marion have been drawing all Secular Franciscans
across Cananda together through their created songs. The music (composed and created by Doug
Clorey), sung in harmony together, brings melodies of Peace to all the Secular Franciscans who listen. Thank you, Doug and Marion. What a Blessing!
Have heard from some Secular Franciscans as they remark about the Goodness of God admist Covid 19 and how HE is resetting the world. HIS Hand moving, purifying: decrease in pollution, closures of Abortion Clinics, Stop to Human Trafficking, increase of Family Living and much more.
"Come Holy Spirit, renew the face of the world"
God is with us ... All the time!
Pax et Bonum
Linda Adams, Minister
OLOTA Regional Council
